First, a moment of silence for the the iPhone 9 that has not, and never will exist.
Last Wednesday, Apple announced their latest round of iPhones: the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and the iPhone XR. WTIA Phone Plan participants have a lot to be excited about!
Apple has once again outdone themselves, and inspired us to do the same—we always offer a $200 device credit upon sign up and every 10 months after that, but we’re bumping that up to $400 off the purchase of one of the newly released iPhones (requires line transfer or purchase of new line, promotion available until 12/1/18).
Read on for details on the new devices, and the new features we’re most excited about.
Options and Pricing
While the iPhone XS and XS Max represent the latest incarnation of Apple’s high-end devices, the XR is Apple’s latest foray into more cost friendly options—previous incarnations include the 5C, and the SE.
Options and pricing for the new devices are as follows:
Features we’re excited about
Water resistance – All devices will now have a certain degree of water resistance, which should save many of us a lot of stress (and rice! Pro Tip: if you’ve ever accidentally submerged a non-water-resistant device, immediately turn it of, and place the device in a bag filled with uncooked rice for about 24 hours). The XR is “splash-resistant,” which protects against everyday spills, but the XS and XS Max will be fine after spending up to 30 minutes in water, at a depth of up to 2 meters.
Face ID – Rather than Touch ID on the home button, all devices will now use the Face ID technology that we got acquainted with when the iPhone X was released. Face ID can be used to unlock your device, log in to apps, and to confirm purchases via Apple Pay.
Battery Life – All devices will clock in with longer battery life. The XR will last about 30 min longer than the iPhone X, the XS will last about 60 minutes longer, and the iPhone XS Max will get a whopping 90 minutes of additional battery life.
iOS 12 – All devices will come preloaded with iOS 12. The iOS 12 update will also be available for all iPhone users on Tuesday, September 18.
iPhone XS and XS Max
Dual-Sim Card Support – Taking a cue from Google devices, the new high-end devices will come with the ability to support multiple SIM cards.
3D Touch – Both the screen and the home button will be responsive to touch pressure, and will react differently depending on the strength of your “tap”.
Super Retina Display – OLED HDR Screen
Dual Camera – 12 megapixel camera PLUS telephoto lenses
Colors/Body – Harkening back to the iPhone 5C, the XR will be available in a few fun and bright colors. Unlike the 5C which had a plastic body that was somewhat prone to cracking, the XR boasts an Aluminum body with a glass back.
Available in Blue, Coral, Yellow, White, Black, and Product Red.
The iPhone XS and XS Max are already available for preorder, and the iPhone XR is available for preorder starting Friday, October 19.
